Baby Cow Brewing’s taproom is a unique blend of rich history and modern craft beer culture, nestled in the heart of Comanche, Texas. Housed in the historic Lot1 Block1 building, this beautifully preserved space was originally built in 1891 as the First National Bank, boasting architectural charm that echoes its storied past.
Stepping inside, guests are greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, where Stained glass windows, vintage fixtures, and rustic wood accents create the perfect setting to enjoy a locally brewed pint. The taproom offers a rotating selection of handcrafted beers, each brewed with passion and a nod to the town’s deep-rooted heritage.
Adding to the intrigue, Baby Cow Brewing sits just steps away from a significant piece of Wild West history. The side of the building faces Austin Street, the very location where infamous outlaw John Wesley Hardin shot Deputy Sheriff Charles Webb in 1874—a moment that sparked a turning point in Texas frontier justice.
Whether you’re a craft beer enthusiast, a history buff, or just passing through Comanche, Baby Cow Brewing’s taproom offers a one-of-a-kind experience where past and present meet over a cold, refreshing pour.
The story behind Baby Cow Brewing’s name is as fun and lighthearted as the brewery itself. It all started with Kody’s brother-in-law, David—a true city boy who loved escaping to the Texas countryside to enjoy some home-brewed beer in the backyard while watching the cows graze in the pasture.
Every time David made the trip up from Houston, he would excitedly point out, “Oh, look at those Baby Cows!” And every time, the response was the same: “There’s no such thing as a Baby Cow.” The phrase became an inside joke, a playful nod to David’s city roots and his love for the rural Texas charm.
When it came time to name the brewery, the choice was obvious—Baby Cow Brewing was born, a name that captures the spirit of good beer, good company, and a little bit of friendly teasing.
